Uday’s journey as an artist began when he was a child. He started learning traditional painting techniques at his home-town near Chirala. He did plenty of drawings and paintings based on temple sculptures. Later, he came to Hyderabad and pursued his graduation and post-graduation in painting from JNAFAU College of Fine Arts. At present, he is settled in Hyderabad and is busy painting for futures shows.
The artist started off by working on varied subjects and rendering them using photo-realist technique. Among other things he has painted a one rupee coin, fruits, vegetables and bottles. At the moment, he seems to be keen on depicting the essence of urban environment. His present series of works is based on the environs of Hyderabad as seen by him. The compositions recreate the images as they look when they get reflected on colored glass. The distortion and color changes that occur as they make place on the glass surface get transferred onto the painting in all its detail. The representation of the subtle changes that take place in view of the fact that the painted scene is notes seen directly but as seen on the glass grants the works a kind of uniqueness and marked individuality.
The reflective aspect grants a kind of fluid quality which adds to the works a sense of fantasy and allegory. In the works, the buildings look beautiful and delicate in a peculiar way. Had the perspective been direct as perceived by the eye, the lyrical quality would have not been possible.
The concrete texture of the typical urban landscape, of Hyderabad in particular, in these works appreciates the beauty of the magnanimous man-made creations. The artist looks at them with admiration, affinity and marked fondness
The compositions are devoid of human presence and yet the images, the play of geometrical forms as windows, doors and pillars, all remind and recreate the impression of human life that resides and prevails around man-made structures.
The stark differences and contrasts from the rural life that the artist comes from made him ad-mire the glitter and gloss of huge buildings. Later, his love for precision, detail and realism inspired him to build up the kind of language that he has developed to give vent to his creative instincts. His unfaltering attention and concentration on detail has won him applause from people belonging to all walls of life.
